I love the movie. But I had already read the graphic novel. Throughout the movie, I kept noticing things that weren't explained (such as Manhattan's nudity) and I felt that detracted from the movie itself. Having read the novel, I knew why certain things were the way they were, but I suppose putting in all that back story would've made the movie extremely long.
In the novel, the back story on the main characters and the 1950s characters are told in short chapters throughout the story; instead of as a long montage right at the beginning. I can see why it was done that way for the movie, but I prefer the story-telling style of the novel.
Do yourself a favor and read the book. I could hardly put it down back when I read it.
